An Electric Railroad Impacted the County's Growth

Stuart J. Swiedler will use rare, historic images from the East Bay Hills project website to show how the Sacramento Northern Railroad and the Oakland Antioch and Eastern Railway helped populate Contra Costa County and surrounding areas at the quarterly meeting of the Contra Costa County Historical Society.  Presented in conjunction with the related exhbit at the History Center in Martinez, Swiedler will use many images not yet on the website nor shown before in public.  The two electric rail systems crossed the County from east to west and north to south in the first four decades of the 20th century.  The speaker will also show how the original roadbeds are used today.

Guests are welcome.  Refreshments will be served

Attendees are invited to view the current exhibit at 610 Main Street.  It is open from 10 am to 4 pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays and third Saturdays of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m through June 28, 2012.
