Out and About in Martinez

Artists Reception, Open Studios, Garage Sale, Golf Tournament and Mother's Day, a busy weekend in Martinez.

Friday night, May 11 you're invited to the Martinez Open Studio Artists' Reception and Group Exhibition being held at "I've Been Framed", 411 Ferry Street from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. View a sampling of all participating artists' work, pick up the map / brochure and plan your self-guided tour for the weekend.

The Open Studios hours are from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, May 12 and from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday, May 13. You will get a behind-the-scenes look into the artists' creative spaces as they open their homes and studios. Multiple artists will be showcased at several venues so you will be able to enjoy seeing their work at one location. Some of the art mediums on display are ceramics, glass, jewelry, acyclic, encaustics, watercolor and photography. The tour is free. You can visit www.MartinezOpenStudios.org to view examples.

Saturday, May 12, is the Soroptimist International of Martinez Garage Sale. The hours are from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at 2363 Sweetwater Drive, Martinez.

Also on Saturday is the MEF / AHS Boosters Golf Tournament at Pine Meadows Golf Course beginning at 1:00 pm. All proceeds will benefit the Martinez Education Foundation and Alhambra High School Sports Boosters.

Sunday, May 13 is Mother's Day. My Mother has passed away, but on this day, and every day, she lives on in my heart. Those of you fortunate enough to still have your Mother's with you...make this day special.

Mark your calendars because next weekend is packed! Kiwanis is having a rummage sale on the 18th and 19th. Kiwanis Alhambra Key Club is holding a Family / Children's Carnival on Saturday. May 19 is the Peddler's Faire. The 19th and 20th is the Martinez Opera's performances of The Barber of Seville. And, it's the 6th Annual Les Schwab Car and Bike Show on the Sunday.

Check it out...the "Martinez" sign across Marina Vista is now "lit" at night!

See you around Martinez...
