Temple Beth Hillel Sunday Morning Bagel Brunch

Revital Shiri-Horowitz, born and raised in Israel with ancestral roots in Iraq, presents an overview of the comfortable life Iraqi Jews gave up when they emigrated from their homeland to the new state of Israel in the first half of the 20th Century.  The speaker also examines the extreme hardships and cultural repercussions her ancestors faced assimilating into an Israel of European Jews and Sabras.

Her debut novel, Daughters of Iraq, written in Hebrew and translated into English, is a multi-layered, multi-generational story centered around the "voices" of 3 women providing a woman's perspective regarding their exodus from Iraq and life in a Jewish community that no longer exists.

After 19 years of "commuting" between Israel and the US, Revital Shiri-Horowitz recently moved to Seattle WA where she lives with her husband and 4 sons.
