Once Upon A Mattress

February 1 & 2

Whatever is a kingdom to do? The King has been struck dumb by a witch’s curse, no one is allowed to marry until the Prince has wed a true princess of Royal blood, and the Queen has assumed power and, basically, instituted her own version of martial law!

Is this a small kingdom in the far corners of the earth? Per chance it’s a futuristic world from the latest sci-fi novel? No, it’s Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairytale "The Princess and the Pea" turned upside down and around and around until it became the musical comedy "Once Upon A Mattress." The marvelous members of Youth Theatre Company’s (YTC) Teen Theatre will present the laugh-filled tale on February 1 at 7 pm and February 2 at 2 pm and 7 pm at Del Valle Theatre, 1963 Tice Valley Blvd. in Walnut Creek.

“The show is so wild and crazy, really over-the-top,” says Sarah Bura, who plays Princess Winnifred. “You can’t help but laugh when you first see me on stage. I have seaweed in my hair and the most hideous dress. It’s perfect.” Sarah has been involved with YTC for the past two years and loves working with the other students and directors. “Everyone is so funny and really good at what they do. They make it enjoyable even when you’re working really hard.”

I am happy to know that Mr. Behan's review of "STID" is now available. Might we knowRead More where it is available? Perhaps I am just an Apple lovin' technopeasant, but despite my frantic serial clicking on text without links, I could not find the actual story. Alas and alack I may never know why there is no darkness in "...Into Darkness" (or Lightness). Oh, and welcome back Jim!
