This Week in Local Government

Also, tonight is the Armando's Jazz Jam.

It's MONDAY, May 16, 2011. Let's just get to things, shall we?

  1. Martinez fairly well owned the race yesterday. There were at least 25 Martinez runners who finished in the top one hundred, and a dozen who finished in the top 25. If you were there and have photos, please share them on Martinez Patch. We'd love to see what you saw. And congratulations to everyone who ran the race.
  2. The Grant Subcommittee of the Park, Recreation, Marina and Cultural Commission meets this afternoon at 4 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room, 2nd floor, to discuss the status of the two the city has applied for - one for improvements to Waterfront Park, the other for a new park on Center Avenue.
  3. The full Park, Recreation, Marina and Cultural Commission meets tomorrow, Tuesday, May 17, at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Among the items for discussion will be the two state grants, and updates on the Marina, the condition of the Fishing Pier Path, the Zocchi Property (site of two proposed sports complexes), and discussion of a BMX bike park. The meeting is held at 525 Henrietta St.
  4. The Martinez City Council meets on Wednesday, May 18, in the same location - 525 Henrietta St. The council will convene a special budget workshop at 5:30 p.m., followed by its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Among the items for discussion will be the status of 630 Court St., a historical building owned by the city that is presently being considered for a restaurant and offices by a local restoration firm.
  5. Finally, if all this government stuff causes your head to swim, just take a trip to Armando's tonight for the monthly . Bring your axe and your attitude, and $3, and get ready to swing, baby.
