Theatrical Thursday

Also, last day to enter the Marketing Martinez contest.

Today is THURSDAY, March 31, 2011. Today is the final day of March, as we march headlong into spring. We welcome April - the cruelest month, according to poet T.S. Eliot - with open arms. There is nothing cruel about the luxurious effects this weather is having on the landscape.

  1. Bon Voyage, temporarily, to Commander who leaves in two days for Quantico, Virginia, and a stint at the FBI National Academy. The last Martinez officer to receive training there was the late, great Bud Markwith, who was police chief in the 1980s. We are lucky to have Ghisletta on the force, and luckier to have him return with all that great training. When he returns, Ghisletta will be promoted to Captain under the department's new structure. Travel safely, Eric.
  2. If you're in the mood for some local theater, you are in serious luck. Today there are three productions to suit any theatrical sensibility. For starters, there is at the Willows Theatre in Concord.
  3. Or, if a whacky romp is what you seek, check out at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek.
  4. Feeling whimsical and kind of youngish with a focus on chocolate? There's always in Danville. On a personal note, I am a fan of the Oompa Loompas, because somehow I think they're related to me; Oompa Loompa is not that far removed from Caroompas.
  5. And don't forget that today is the final day to enter the contest. We have some great entries, some of which came in Wednesday. We're looking for the final entries today, and then will decide who wins the $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant. Send your entries to jim.caroompas@patch.com. And good luck.
