The Wheels Keep Turning

Also, full moon Mt. Wanda walk, many musical events, and a Father's Day make-a-mug.

Today is TUESDAY, June 14, 2011. Sure it's summer, and the weather is great, but that doesn't mean the wheels of government grind to a halt. Quite the opposite, in fact. There is quite a bit going on, and we'll try and keep you abreast of it as it happens here at Patch. Meanwhile:

  1. Tomorrow night is a full moon, and that means it's time for a full moon walk on Mt. Wanda, sponsored by the National Park Service. This is a great way to see the wonder of where we live, from a perspective we don't often get. Bring the kids -- nighttime summer romping is a memory that can last a lifetime. For reservations, phone (925) 228-8860.
  2. Meanwhile, tonight the Martinez Planning Commission meets meets at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. The commission will discuss a proposal by T Mobile to install cellular anntenae on an existing electrical tower at Hidden Valley Park near Center Avenue.
  3. Tonight is the Spring Concert entitled by the Martinez Community Chorus. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Martinez Adult School.
  4. Also tonight, another musical event - a group of young musicians who play, sing and dance all at once. This concert is sponsored by the Willows Theater, and is taking place at the John Muir Amphitheater, 111 Tarantino Dr.
  5. Finally, if your little one is searching for just the right gift for dad on Father's Day, consider the at Michael's in Pleasant Hill this evening. For the cost of the mug, your child three and up can make a personalized mug just for dad.

I have found it's very hard to find a parking spot there. Another negative is the number of theRead More "constant outsdoorsmen" types lurking all around. I've been confronted several times and worried about leaving my car there.

The Fire Crew worked very late into the night and into the next morning. The Police were alsoRead More working nearby, picking up some of the dead baby animals that were hit on the road, displaced by the fire.

Hi Robert, Thanks for dropping in and checking out the blog. The new Patch look is so 'new' as I amRead More still learning to navigate through. Just updated it and added the link to my film review. Thanks again. Cheers!

I am happy to know that Mr. Behan's review of "STID" is now available. Might we knowRead More where it is available? Perhaps I am just an Apple lovin' technopeasant, but despite my frantic serial clicking on text without links, I could not find the actual story. Alas and alack I may never know why there is no darkness in "...Into Darkness" (or Lightness). Oh, and welcome back Jim!

Do City Council members still get free parking passes as perk?

The main reason I don't go to any of the businesses downtown is the lack of parking. What littleRead More there is is taken up by the owners of these establishments. God forbid they park somewhere else less convenient so actual paying customers can frequent their businesses.

Jim, then that's yet another penalty for showing up for jury duty. The system needs a big overhaul.Read More
