Roxx Redux and Weekend Things

It's FRIDAY, March 4, 2011. This space is taking a small respite for a few days, leaving all things editorial in the capable hands of Dan Smith. Meanwhile, it is the day before the weekend, so let's take a look at what's going on:

  2. Hop over the bridge to Benicia today and catch the screening of a powerful and disturbing film "," and then stick around for a discussion of the effects of pollution on marine wildlife. Showtime is 4 p.m. at the Benicia Library. 
  3. Tomorrow is the . Yes, it's in Walnut Creek, and yes, it's well worth the drive. The cold snap has not been kind to seasonal vegetables, but these folks have the freshest, and this market, with over 40 vendors, is really a gem. The Martinez Farmers Markets, on Thursdays and Sundays, don't open up again until May.
  4. Do you have batteries, cell phones and other electronic e-waste that you want to get rid of, but know better than to just throw away? Take it to the e-waste event Saturday at the Pleasant Hill Library, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  5. Finally, check out and her Quartet at on Sunday. It's a great way to wind up your weekend - she is one hot singer of swing, blues and jazz, and never disappoints her audience.
