Are you old school Martinez? Did you, for example, used to dine at Bud's Pork Chop Sandwiches on Main St.? Or perhaps get a steak sandwich from Mitch's, or huevos rancheros from Maria's? Maybe Paul's was your favorite gathering spot.
Did you cruise for burgers from A&W to Foster Freeze on a Friday night? Did you see the Lady in Red walking around town? Or dance at the Y Club?
Stationary came from Reed's, of course, and jeans and tshirts from Hilton's. One shopped at Laird's Market and bought hardware from LaSalle's. Candy and newspapers came from Pop's.
Or, for a more nautical experience, there was always The Albatross by the Marina.
These and many other experiences were unique to Martinez in days gone by. And that is the focal point of a gathering on June 29 at the bocce courts in Waterfront Park.
"Remembering Martinez" will feature classic cars, bocce, and a Barbeque.
The event is $25 per person, and the deadline to send in payment is May 15. Send your check or money order to "Remembering Martinez," 3850 Adelaide Dr., Martinez CA 94553. For more information, call Raymond Gentry at (925) 812-1105.
