Designing your mental break day.

Have you ever had one of those days (maybe a week?) where you’ve run from one thing to another without pausing to breathe? We get so caught up in taking care of everyone and everything else, that we forget about caring for ourselves. Mental break days are an antidote to our sometimes-insane schedules and are vital to our creativity, passion, and turning up our radiance.

Of course, it’s important to take mental breaks every day by spending a few minutes in silence and grounding ourselves with deep breathing. But there are also times when we need a little extra serenity to keep our lives in balance and on the right path. That's when it’s time for a mental break day: your personal vacation to do whatever you want. No phone, no computer (unless they’re part of your plan), and you don’t get to feel a single ounce of guilt or spend a millisecond worrying about your obligations. You are free!

It starts with a compelling vision.

First, take a few minutes to close your eyes and dream about your perfect day of bliss. Where would you be? What would you be doing? How would your body and mind feel?

You may not be able to run off to an exotic island (unless you are), but see how you can create the same feel around here. Maybe you’d like time near the water, napping in a hammock, or creating art. Really feel into the joy and harmony you will create.

Next, create the space.

1. Choose a day and plan to take that entire day off. 

2. Enlist help with kids, pets, and work.

3. Make necessary arrangements: reservations for massages or meals, collect art supplies; do whatever is needed to create your day. Sometimes, I’ll just grab food and my journal, and head out into the hills for hours of meditation and writing.

The whole point of a mental break day is to rejuvenate, re-energize, and bring balance back into your life.

I love the way you set things up for us, with all the steps about "how to" take a "mental break" day. You make it easier to consider when the thinking it through steps are here in front of us...just what I needed! Once again...thank you for your wisdom! Love it...thank you!! xo Cindy

I have found that none of needs a large amount of time to recharge, re-energize, it seems simpler than that but difficult to attain. We don't need big amounts, I find what we need is a little time on a frequent and regular basis. Our emotional batteries stay at their peek when refreshed often.
