Martinez Community Foundation Accepting Grant Applications

Long time group funds local projects and programs.

The Martinez Community Foundation, which provides grants and funding to projects and programs throughout the city, is now accepting grant applications. The primary focus of the grants are community services, cultural and community celebrations, economic development, education and the environment.

Projects or programs to be considered by the MCF board of directors this spring will be those that primarily serve and are located in Martinez. Applications must be received by Monday, March 7, 2011.

Established in 1993, the Foundation has provided more than $509,000 in grants to projects and programs that benefit the community and the people who live and work in Martinez.

“The MCF Board considers each of the applications very carefully, and attempts to provide funding to the projects or programs that will serve a large segment of the community, if not immediately, then in later years. We are striving to leave a legacy for many years to come,” said Stuart M. McCullough, board president.

inception of MCF are the Alhambra Creek Restoration Project, Boys and Girls Club of Diablo Valley, Festival Opera in the Park, First Night® Martinez, Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, John Muir Association, Main Street Martinez, Martinez Adult Education, Martinez Arts Association, Martinez Community Chorus, Martinez Public Library, Martinez Historical Society, Martinez Opera, Martinez Senior Community Center, Muir Heritage Land Trust, Sons of Italy “Joltin Joe” Restoration Project and the Willows Cabaret Theatre. Additionally, schools throughout Martinez have received grants for various educational and technical projects that included computer and scientific equipment and musical instruments.

The Foundation does not award grants to individuals, to for-profit organizations,

new or start-up organizations, nor may grants be used for research, administrative or operating expenses, or for sectarian religious functions.  Not-for-profit organizations must have current federal tax-exempt [501(c)(3)] status.
