Walton could have profiled Daniel Merrill, M.D., a retired Martinez urologist who has spent his retirement years farming and writing books.

Merrill has just released his latest book, The Earthworm Farmer’s Bible. It’s a comprehensive work that provides practical tips on how to get started with composting.

The book is useful for families who want to reduce their family’s garbage output by composting all kitchen waste. It’s also scaled for those interested in commercially farming earthworms—for organic farming, fishing and other uses.

Dr. Merrill was as Chief of Urology at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Martinez. Since his retirement in 2000 he’s been farming earthworms, making wine from the grapes grown on his Alhambra Valley ranch property and writing books.
