Free Pet Adoptions This Weekend

The Second Annual Maddie Matchmaker Adoptathon

This weekend you can adopt cats and dogs for free, thanks to second annual Maddie Matchmaker Adoptathon

All animal shelters and rescue organizations in Contra Costa and Alameda  County's are offering free adoptions to qualified adoptors on Saturday and Sunday.  Maddie’s Fund pays the shelters and rescue organizations for each adoption. The event is a fundraising opportunity for these organizations, it helps people find their best friends, and gets animals into loving homes where they belong.

Kelly Hancock, a volunteer at the Contra Costa Animal Shelter said about last year, “I was the volunteer that got the last dog adopted. It was a good feeling.” Last year all adoptable dogs and cats ready for adoption were adopted.

Dave Duffield is the founder of Maddie’s Foundation, who named the foundation after his family’s beloved Minature Schnauzer who passed away in 1997. For more information on the event, see their press release.

Below is a list of organizations participating in Contra Costa County. Make sure you check with the organization you are thinking of visiting for their hours.

I have found it's very hard to find a parking spot there. Another negative is the number of theRead More "constant outsdoorsmen" types lurking all around. I've been confronted several times and worried about leaving my car there.

I am happy to know that Mr. Behan's review of "STID" is now available. Might we knowRead More where it is available? Perhaps I am just an Apple lovin' technopeasant, but despite my frantic serial clicking on text without links, I could not find the actual story. Alas and alack I may never know why there is no darkness in "...Into Darkness" (or Lightness). Oh, and welcome back Jim!

The main reason I don't go to any of the businesses downtown is the lack of parking. What littleRead More there is is taken up by the owners of these establishments. God forbid they park somewhere else less convenient so actual paying customers can frequent their businesses.

Jim, then that's yet another penalty for showing up for jury duty. The system needs a big overhaul.Read More
