Five Things — Romantics to AIRobics

It’s FRIDAY, Feb. 11, 2011, so let us all just take a moment and breathe a sigh of relief that the past week is, well, past. We have the weekend to look forward to, and then Monday we can all celebrate Valentine’s Day in whatever fashion seems appropriate for a Monday. Meanwhile, there is a lot going on the next three days. Let’s take a look:

The opens a show today called “Abstractions,” which runs through April 15. Check out the great new work on display from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Martinez Gallery, 630 Court St.

Downtown Martinez Has a Heart is a program sponsored by the Martinez Downtown Retailers Focus Group in which many of the merchants there will donate 10 percent of their proceeds Saturday and Sunday to the

Also Saturday, from 2 to 5:30 p.m. is the “,” an event sponsored by Main Street Martinez. Tickets in advance are $15, $25 the day of the event. Participants receive a wine glass and participating merchants will pour a variety of local wines. Tickets are available at ,  and Main Street Martinez. Cheers.

Finally, do not miss Americana Sunday at , starring the , with special guests, including the delightful Melody Walker. This will be an afternoon of music as comfortable and familiar as your living room. These folks are a Martinez institution. The show plays from 3 to 6 p.m., $10 cover, 707 Marina Vista.

The main reason I don't go to any of the businesses downtown is the lack of parking. What littleRead More there is is taken up by the owners of these establishments. God forbid they park somewhere else less convenient so actual paying customers can frequent their businesses.
