Five Things — Relief and a Countdown

Read about a senior food program, school days off, exhibits and a Patch party.

Today is Thursday, Feb. 17. Five Things is published every weekday. If you have something to submit, please e-mail jewells@jps.net. Don't be shy.

  1.  A little relief for our elders. Registered low-income seniors can visit the Boys & Girls Club today at 1301 Alhambra Avenue, from 9 to 10 a.m. to receive free bags of food through the Senior Food Program (click on the link for registration details). For more information, call Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano at 925-771-1303 or 925-771-1303.
  2. Youngsters wearing happy faces. If you happen to see kids wandering around town today, tomorrow and Monday looking blissful, there's a good reason. There's no school in Martinez Unified School District on those days.
  3. A little history will do you good. Stop by the Martinez Historical Society at 1005 Escobar St. today from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. to see the current exhibits. "Boys and Girls of Martinez Shaping Their Future," features the  Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, Girl Scouts and Camp Fire organizations of our community, with artifacts and photographs dating from the 1940s. "The Miller Family," presents memorabilia from Sen. George Miller, Jr. and Congressman George Miller III.
  4. Are you up for a little travel?  Homeopathy Every Day in Walnut Creek today features speaker Renita Hermann, MS, RSHom, CCH, to discuss how to use homeopathy to treat illness. Tell them Martinez Patch sent you.
  5. It's a countdown. Tomorrow is the . Music, free food and drinks, and prizes will be part of the fun. If you don't show up to celebrate with us, we're bringing the party to your house. (Not really, but we do hope you'll stop by.)
