Read about scheduled and canceled city meetings, school days off, a class, volunteering.

Today is Wednesday, Feb. 16. Five Things is published every weekday. If you have something to submit, please e-mail jewells@jps.net.

  1. City Council Meeting at City Hall today from 7 - 10:45 p.m. Among other items, the agenda includes another discussion of medical cannabis dispensaries. There is no doubt this meeting will be immensely interesting.
  2. Tonight's previously scheduled Zoning Administrator meeting has been canceled.  Instead, a special Zoning Administrator meeting will be Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.
  3. It's not a rumor. There's no school in Martinez Unified School District on Thursday and Friday. Spend some quality time with your kids on those days, they grow up fast.  (That's also not a rumor.)
  4. Babysitter wannabes age 11 to 14 can learn skills to provide safe and responsible care for children in a Babysitter's Training class Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Course topics include running a small business, safety, safe play, discipline, basic infant care and first aid. A book with CD-ROM, babysitter certificate, supplies and snacks are included.
  5. are seeking volunteer foster homes for cats of all ages that have been abused, abandoned or surrendered or are at risk of violence. Volunteers provide the love and care, and the organization provides the food, litter and medical care. It's a match that makes everybody purr.
