Five Things — Gardening to Goodies

Read about a gardening class, a school booster club meeting, a play audition, closed offices, Valentine treats.

Super Bowl Sunday (good game, good times, good friends) is over.  Now it's time to get busy on a new week.

  1. After reveling in yesterday's gorgeous weather, are you ready to get your gardening groove on? If so, you can join the Contra Costa Master Gardeners on Tuesday at 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at 401 Ferry St. (Martinez Interim Library) to learn the fine art of winter art pruning. Topics will include roses, fruit trees, deciduous trees and shrubs. Leave your wallet at home — it's free.
  2. Baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football and more, Alhambra High Booster Club supports them all. This club is meetings is tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the staff lounge, and  parents of students involved in sports are encouraged to attend. Who are the real beneficiaries of these free meetings?   3. It's your chance to step into the spotlight. Today is the last day for open auditions for the .  The Benicia Old Town Theatre Group is holding open auditions for an April 22- May 14 production of the comedy  by Larry Shue, directed by Clinton Vidal. The cast consists of four men, ages 20-45 years, two women ages 20-45 and an 8-year-old. Actors should come to the auditions with a one- to three-minute comedic monologue or prepared reading. 
  4. Heads up:  Friday, the City of Martinez offices will be closed to observe Abraham Lincoln's birthday. Martinez Chamber of Commerce also will be closed. 
  5. It's exactly one week until Valentine's Day.  Have you picked up any goodies for your Valentine yet?  If not, consider services from one of the many nail salons in Martinez.  Men, women love that stuff.  Women, wouldn't you love to see his toes done up properly?  Spots in Martinez include , , , , , , ,  and .
