Friday. It's such a lovely word, wouldn't you agree? When you finish mulling over that question, here are a few other things to think about:

  1. Take a moment to smell the flowers (and view some artwork) at a free artist's reception featuring Cathy Riggs, a local artist who specializes in watercolor and acrylics. This event will be hosted by 1 2 3 Accounting Solutions at 1704 Alhambra Ave., Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. You can read all about Riggs in .
  2. Did you know  in Martinez offers free weekend workshops? That's a fact, friends. Do-it-yourselfers are invited to partake in the following one-hour classes:  Saturday, 10 a.m., Interior & Exterior Painting (best paints, tools, and techniques); 11 a.m. Flooring Solutions (flooring options, installation instructions and tips); 1 p.m. Save Energy (solutions, product alternatives, and installation instructions). Sunday, 1 p.m., Gardening in Cool Weather (choosing and caring for cool-weather plants); 2 p.m., Maintaining Driveways (tips and products for repairing and protecting asphalt and concrete driveways).
  3.  restaurant and bar is celebrating the launch of its new location with a ceremony on Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon. Mayor Rob Schroeder, along with the restaurant's many other fans (you, perhaps?), will join the fun. 436 Ferry St. (formerly Le Beau's address). Go see for yourself. You're invited.
  4. Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog famous for predicting the weather, didn’t see his shadow Wednesday. This supposedly means we all get to enjoy an early spring. Fingers crossed that he's correct. If you want to see if Phil's forecast is moving in the right direction for our fair city,  just look for the temperature in the upper right-hand corner of your screen on any Martinez Patch page. Then, move your cursor over the temperature to see a seven-day weather forecast popup.  Don't be shy. Go ahead, try it.
  5. Have you made a personal game plan for Superbowl Sunday on February 6?  If you want to watch the game close to home, but can't decide which local pub suits your fancy, read .
