Delta Resesarch Center Grant Denied

A proposed grant for the California Center for Delta Research and Education in one of the two waterfront warehouses near the Amtrak station has been denied, according to city officials.

The denial means the city will now pursue a lease with California Courtside, a group which wants to convert the smaller warehouse into an indoor basketball/volleyball complex. The City Council earlier this month directed staff to pursue a 15-year lease with Universal Sports Complex, a group that plans an indoor baseball/soccer complex in the larger warehouse.

The city purchased the warehouses and the property in 2008 with state funds, on the condition that it provide parking for Amtrak customers and a possible ferry system.
