Children's Light Parade Cancelled Due To Rainy Weather

Ice rink also cancelled, but indoor events will still be held on Friday night

The annual Children's Light Parade in downtown Martinez has fallen victim to the weather.

The city's website announced today the holiday parade on Main Street has been cancelled due to expected rainy weather Friday evening.

The ice rink as well as the jumps and other activities on Main Street were also cancelled.

Those events were supposed to be part of the city's annual holiday celebration on Friday night.

Indoor events such as the Gingerbread House, Candy Cane Lane and the Reindeer Stop will still be held.

In addition, the Snow Park has been moved indoors to BowRack at the corner of Estudillo and Escobar.

Santa's House will also be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The tree lighting is still scheduled for 5:30 p.m., weather permitting.

More than 2,000 people attended last year's Children's Light Parade. To help ease the pain of this year's cancellation, we have included a video from the 2011 parade with this article.

Such a bummer to have the parade canceled this year. Thanks to all who helped organized. At least there is a plan B for others holiday activities and of course Santa. Also would like to mention that Alhambra High Marching Band will be performing in tomorrow's Oakland Children's Holiday parade rain or shine. Huge parade and lot of fun for everyone.
