A Fine Beginning to April

A plethora of fund raisers, a mini motorway and the final Five Things.

It's FRIDAY, April 1, 2011. It's the first day of April, and the last day of Five Things. No, it's not an April Fool's joke. Starting Monday, Five Things will be replaced with a column I'm calling About. It will be about a particular subject that day, hopefully of interest to you. It certainly will have a bearing on Martinez, and sometimes it will be a list of things, somethings just a ramble about something. I hope you enjoy it. And I hope you've had fun with Five Things. I have. Now for the final five:

  1. Yesterday was the final day for entries into the Marketing Martinez contest. I've compiled all the entries, which I will release in story form today, then put together a haphazard group of judges to help decide the winner of the $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant. Thanks to everyone who entered. There were some really good ideas.
  2. The event is today, starring the Blue Moon Bros. This is a fund raiser for a very good cause. If you're out and about this evening, make this one of your destinations.
  3. Saturday is the art auction for the Martinez Music Boosters Club. This is another worthy cause that definitely deserves your support. And it's at , one of the city's best eateries.
  4. Yet another fund raiser Saturday, this one at , has the theme You could make a weekend out of attending fund raisers.
  5. Finally, if you have kids ages two to five, bring their personal ride (a Big Wheels, trike, anything but a gas-powered vehicle), to the at the . There will be a mini-city for them to drive through, including drive-throughs, gas stations, banks, etc. Let them do the driving for a day.
