5) Election Results

On Nov. 6, Martinez voters elected newscomer Annamarie Farias and incumbent Mark Ross to the City Council. 

 All three school board incumbents were re-elected.

4) Woman Murdered

A suspect was arrested in early August for the murder of a Martinez woman on the steps of the Chamber of Commerce building.

Jason Castillo, 25, of Concord was booked into County Jail on suspicion of murdering the 47-year-old woman during a fight.

3) Presidential Debate

The presidential debates in October were big news for Martinez Patch readers.

The story that previewed the third and final debate on Oct. 22 between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney was the third most read story on the site in 2012.

2) Shuttle Flyover

The flyover of the space shuttle Endeavor on the back of a large aircraft drew a lot of attention.
