30 Nights with the Martinez / Pacheco Homeless Outreach - Friday Night Rounds

A busy night for the city - Car Show, graduation. . . but the homeless are pretty quiet tonight.

Day 21

Tonight I started downtown at the Car Show -- there were a few homeless there but nothing like years before. I made a few contacts, but nothing I said seemed to work; they were more concerned about the music than their situation, but I guess everyone needs a break from their reality.

After the car show I went out to Rankin Park. I saw a recently used camp, but no one was there; I just left a card.

Next I went down Alhambra Avenue but it was pretty busy because of graduation. I did end up stopping a couple of guys and asking them to move further down Alhambra; I didn't want them  close to the graduation. I didn't want them doing anything stupid and getting in trouble; they have enough trouble with day-to-day life.

Then I went up on Highway 4; there's a guy camping alongside the the highway and he has some heart issues so I check on him frequently. He was fine but I gave him some supplies and checked his meds to make sure he was taking them.

Then I get a call to go to the Amtrak Station where there was a homeless person yelling and had been kicked out of the station, so I went to see what was wrong. She was all over the place; she couldn't tell me any information I needed to help her. She said she was doing an investigation in Martinez and was leaving tomorrow. She said she had been to the hospital and they asked her to leave also. So I ended up making sure she was in a good spot and gave her some blankets and shoes and told her what time the bus came; hopefully she will go home today. She needs to be at home, not on the streets and I would've of taken her home but she didn't want to go.

Otherwise it was a pretty good night; nothing major happened.
