30 Nights with the Martinez / Pacheco Homeless Outreach - A Mess on Escobar
A night that ended on a hopeful note.
Day 20
7:45 p.m: I'll bet you're getting tired of hearing the same things night after night, but it's always the same with life on the streets.
I started out at Granger's Wharf; I heard there was guy camping out there. I did see a camp that had been used recently, but no guy, so I left a card at the camp for whomever is there.

I went to the Amtrak Station and right away there are two inmates needing a ride so I asked them to wait. I met a guy from my church that had some food he wanted me hand out -- he was nice enough to bring it to Amtrak.
I went out to the vacant house on Escobar Street -- there was no one camping there but the mess gets bigger daily. It's kind of becoming a health hazard and it just smells.

I went down to Howe Road to meet a guy that called me from the night before. He was interested in getting some help, so I went down and spoke with him and the services he wants; we will have to meet in the morning so we can make it happen.
After last night I thought it would be busier, but it was really kind of slow, so I took the inmates to BART and finished the night in Vine Hill/Pacheco area. I actually ended contacting seven people in Vine Hill tonight, which was good.
I was able to help a guy with some nice clothes for a job interview. That's something I don't get to do often, so I ran to my house and gave him my clothes to wear. It was cool to see someone trying.
