After a Long Winter, Rankin Aquatic Center Begins Its First Full Season

The spring schedules for the Rankin Aquatic Center begins May 1.

Next week the Rankin Aquatic Center will begin its first full season with Water Aerobics on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. and Fitness Lap Swimming on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15 - 4:25 p.m. and Fridays from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.

In my first blog I explained how a grass roots group joined together to help the city expand the use at the Aquatic Center to its full potential.  The City staff led by Patty Lorick has worked very hard to meet the demands of the brand new facility.  When we began there was a huge lifeguard shortage and that was one of the reasons that the pool hours could not be extended for water aerobics and lap swimming.  The City offered the training for lifeguards and the Rankin Aquatic Center Partners (aka The Mermaids) provided the advertising.  It was our first successful joint project.  Our excitement and enthusiasm grew and now the season will begin.

In the spring the Martinez Community Swim Team will be using the pool for their after school practices which is why Fitness Lap Swim and Water Aerobics is earlier in the afternoon.  When the summer sessions begin in June the class schedules will be similar to last summer.

The "After School Swim Lessons" program for children in grades 1st - 5th will be on Mondays and Wednesdays at 3:30 - 4:15 p.m.  There will be 8 classes from May 1 - 30 (no class on May 28th).  The final class will be on May 30th with the May Play Day.  Admission tickets for this event will be provided on the last day of class.  The fee for 8 classes is $57 for residents and $62 for non-residents.

Fees for Water Aerobics classes are:

     Session A:  May 1 - May 22     10 classes     $50.

     Session B:  May 24 - June 7      7 classes     $35.

These may be paid with credit card by calling 925-372-3510 or paying a $6 drop-in fee (cash only at the pool). Need 13 registered students for each session to hold the class.

     Fees for Fitness Lap Swim:

Adults:  $52/ Session or $5 drop in

Seniors:  $42/ Session or $4 drop in

Or purchase a punch pass good for all summer.

For questions, contact Patty Lorick  plorick@cityofmartinez.org or 925-372-3510.

A complete list of Rankin Aquatic Center programs is available on the city's website.

Jump right in — the water is great! An average temperature of 82 degrees!

I have found it's very hard to find a parking spot there. Another negative is the number of theRead More "constant outsdoorsmen" types lurking all around. I've been confronted several times and worried about leaving my car there.

Hi Robert, Thanks for dropping in and checking out the blog. The new Patch look is so 'new' as I amRead More still learning to navigate through. Just updated it and added the link to my film review. Thanks again. Cheers!

I am happy to know that Mr. Behan's review of "STID" is now available. Might we knowRead More where it is available? Perhaps I am just an Apple lovin' technopeasant, but despite my frantic serial clicking on text without links, I could not find the actual story. Alas and alack I may never know why there is no darkness in "...Into Darkness" (or Lightness). Oh, and welcome back Jim!

Do City Council members still get free parking passes as perk?

The main reason I don't go to any of the businesses downtown is the lack of parking. What littleRead More there is is taken up by the owners of these establishments. God forbid they park somewhere else less convenient so actual paying customers can frequent their businesses.

Jim, then that's yet another penalty for showing up for jury duty. The system needs a big overhaul.Read More
