Heard you missed me, I’m back!
I just returned home from the first Pleasant Hill Concert in the Plaza, which tonight featured Cover2Cover (my band GarageLand Rodeo will be the other “bookend” and will close the series September 15). The event inspired me so I will be using this first blog of “Pub Life” to promote a few of Martinez’s musical happenings this weekend. I’ll follow up later this weekend with another post to tell you about the music lineup forthis year's Fridays on the Main. So let’s take a look at this weekend because there’s no shortage of great music around town - and you really should get out there and support it.
The crown jewel of music in town is of course Martinez Man of the Year, Roy Jeans' club - Armando’s. You may not be aware of it but the last couple of months Armando’s has been hosting a Friday Happy Hour & a Half from 4:30 p.m to 6 p.m. This is a much more intimate and casual easygoing session and if you’ve never been to Armando’s’ its great way to discover the club. Discounted drinks, no cover and did I mention very relaxed, intimate experience. The musical offerings vary but anchoring the sessions and appearing this week is Irish singer- songwriter Sin Silver - other weeks vary but have featured members of the Hopeful Romantics, Caroompas Room and other great local talent. . . it’s a great way to ease into the weekend. Later on in the evening it’s another local favorite, Gina Graziano & Road House Wives (8-11, $10). Then Saturday it’s a night of "New Orleans Funk And Soul" with Caroompas Room (again 8-11, $10)
Over at Tthe Station...it’s Papa’s Garage both Friday and Saturday night (9 p.m. - 1 a.m.) followed by The Delta Dogs on Sunday evening (5 p.m. - 9 p.m.).
Ray’s Lounge of course will have Steve Star’s world famous open mic on Friday (9 p.m.-?) and Sunday (7 p.m.-?) and on Saturday they have Acronycal, from Canada, on their North American Tour!
Steve Star will also be hosting a benefit for Women of the Moose this Saturday over at the Moose Lodge, which among others will feature Martinez’s own So What!...There’s bbq starting around 4 p.m. and music starting about 7:30 p.m., so pop on by and see whats. . . what. . .
Finally the Cue & Brew up on Arnold (by Home Depot and Wal-Mart) will be having live music with Evil Genius, 9:30 p.m. to close. . .
That’s a lot of music and this is just the stuff I know about in town!
