Steffen Collection Antiques Moves to Benicia

The quaint antique shop on Main Street relocated to First Street, Benicia on July 1. Will you miss it? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Susan Steffen, owner of The Steffen Collection, has packed up her colorful collection of trinkets and collectibles and moved to Benicia.

The antique store relocated from Main Street to 627 First Street, Benicia, on July 1.

"We had wonderful friends and customers in Martinez, but we needed to be closer to home," said Steffen, who lives in Benicia.

The store specializes in antique and vintage collectibles, furniture, linens, Bakelite jewelry and clocks.

So far, business in Benicia has been "great," according to Steffen. "When you're the new kid on the block you get a lot of attention," she said.

Were you a customer at The Steffen Collection and will you miss it? Would you travel to Benicia to shop at the new store? Share your thoughts in the comments.

No surprise. The boat I crewed on has been moved FROM Martinez marina as well - the owner of the boat says the place is in such a state of disrepair and due to a lack of dredging the marina is effectively unusable. I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner. What a dump!

What a shame to lose our great merchant friends who were in Martinez for many years and were instrumental in the Antiques Association. We will miss them. But, there is something to be said for having your business close to home, especially since they would have to cross a bridge and pay bridge fare each day.
Benicia's downtown is wonderful. They have outdoor dining on their sidewalks and it does not look like they are in jail. Best of luck to the Steffens. They are two of the nicest people I have met in Martinez. Martinez's loss is Benicia's gain for sure.

I'll miss the Steffens. It was nice to have, right here on Main, a resource of real experts on antiques, art and history. They REALLY knew their stuff and were always kind and generous with appraisals and advice. While they were dealers in business for profit, I always considered them more to be curators.

RP, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Will you visit the Benicia store? Or do you think that's too far for the Martinez customers?

Emily, For myself it will mean fewer visits but for sure, but I know I will be looking forward to coming in at every opportunity. I dont make it to Benicia but a few times a year anymore...I will definately miss that excellent store and awesome people!

Paint the railroad trestle that crosses Alhambra. It's an eyesore.
