Martinez Celebrates National Train Day
Martinez celebrates its long railroad history and current association with Amtrak and Amtrak California with a festive event held at the Martinez Station.
The teamed up Saturday with Amtrak Capitol Corridor and Caltrans to celebrate the past present and future of rail travel. The fourth annual National Train Day kicked off Amtrak's 40th anniversary at a time when gasoline is more than $4 per gallon and train ridership is soaring. Amtrak officials were quick to point out that California is also on th right track to reducing traffic congestion and keeping air clean.
Around the station were numerous vendors; a huge "G" scale (big) train layout from the Diablo Pacific Short Line and Amtrak California Capital Corridor; and from Caltrans, a 25% discount on adult train fares through May 22.
Enjoy our sights and sounds of National Train Day in our video. No speeches. Well, a few coments from Mayor Schroder.
