Earlier Than The Bird - Sales Galore Downtown Saturday

Wear your pajamas and get even more discounts (and possibly a case of pneumonia, so wear a jacket too).

For those of you who claim affinity and love for downtown Martinez, now is the time to walk that talk. Tomorrow, the merchants downtown are holding the "Earlier Than The Bird" sale, which means free parking, lots of sales, and a great way to get a jumpstart on your holiday shopping.

(I know there are folks who insist on saying 'Christmas' instead of 'holiday,' but I also know there are folks who don't celebrate Christmas, but have their own traditions and holidays around now, and they also buy presents. So I'm not 'at war' with Christmas, but just trying to be inclusive. Have Santa sue me.).

The Downtown Retailers Focus Group and Main Street Martinez are coordinating a morning of shopping, prizes, and refreshments. A lot of downtown stores will be open early, some at 8 a.m., to accommodate ambitious and motivated shoppers. Several downtown restaurants are open for breakfast, as always.

It's a great way to avoid getting "malled" on Black Friday. Those of you who, like me, cannot bear the crush of crowds seeking sales in pre-fab environments can enjoy the charm and unhurried atmosphere of a real-life Main Street, complete with smiles and customer service.

Everyone who comes wearing pajamas gets a downtown shopping bag. To get yours, check in at the Main Street Martinez office, 649 Main Street, Suite 106 beginning at 8 am.

"Participating in this event not only gives you the opportunity to find unique holiday gifts that you won't find elsewhere but it helps boost much needed sales for small, independent business." said Leanne Peterson, executive director for Main Street Martinez. When you shop local, over 60% of every dollar goes back in to the local economy compared to just over 30% when you shop at a national chain," said Peterson.

And, as always, there is free parking in downtown Martinez on Saturdays and Sundays.
