Connie's Kitchen Is No More: Were You A Fan?

The popular Martinez eatery closed in November, due to regulations and taxes, according to Connie.

Connie's Kitchen, a popular Pacheco Boulevard eatery that opened in 2010, closed in November, much to the chagrin of the legion of fans who had come to enjoy owner Connie Luna's fresh and tasty fare.

According to Luna's statement on her Facebook site, it was "regulations and taxes" that forced her to shut the doors of the restaurant she opened with her son Michael. "As I refuse to compromise my principles and quality, I have no choice but to close down," she said.

One customer said that, though she had many fans, there were not enough customers to sustain the business, and when the place was full, not enough staff to bring the food out in a timely manner.

"I would often wait over a half an hour to get my food," the former customer said. "Imagine with only a half hour for lunch how that wouldn't fly for most."

Luna has since moved to Martinez, and has established a successful catering business.
