Raul Lomeli

Martinez has lost a fine man in Raul Lomeli.

He was one of our devoted Scout leaders when I was growing up, always a kind, understanding, reassuring presence.

Years later, I was encouraged to seek him out for support when I proposed to run for local office. “He knows everyone and is related to everyone in Martinez,” I was told. With his signature friendliness and warmth, he received me at his kitchen table. Our conversation was long, his thinking insightful, and his expression always generous to others.

Later during my campaign he would show up with his wife Rachel at the right moment to offer encouragement.

Raul Lomeli’s published obituary is too brief to capture a life that included military service in the U.S. Marines during World II and later a career in college education at Diablo Valley College. Nor does it convey the fine human qualities that set Raul apart and are the elements most remembered and now missed by his family and friends.

We are fortunate to have known him and to have had his example in our lives.
