'Martinis on the Plaza' Gala Returns to Martinez

Known as Martinez's most acclaimed social event, the Martinis on the Plaza Gala returns Sept. 28.

Folk etymology in Martinez claims the invention of the Martini cocktail, and says the drink is named for the city.

And Martinez is once again living up to its namesake.

The city's fourth annual Martini festival "Martinis on the Plaza" Gala, will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, around the fountain at Ygnacio Plaza under twinkling white lights.

The event will include the gaiety of the post-Depression and World War II era. It is a remembrance of all that is good in America, a revitalization of Swing dancing, the advent of the Rat Pack, and music that makes everyone want to dance.

Elegant small plates of epicurean delights by local chefs are served and Martinis flow in celebration of the Martini birthplace -- Martinez.
