Music, kid fun and tributes to veterans on this Memorial Day Weekend

Greetings, Martinez residents. If you can believe it, Memorial Day Weekend is here already, and with any luck we will have some sunshine to take in these local events:

 

1.

Where/When: , 707 Marina Vista Ave, Martinez; Saturday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: Visit downtown Martinez to take in this piano play-off with boogie woogie queen Wendy Dewitt.

2. 

Where/When: , 2450 Grant St, Concord; Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why Go: There will be live entertainment as well as more than 15 rides (ferris wheel, pony rides, EuroBungy trampoline, Cap’n Hook Fun House, petting zoo, giant slide and more) and a delicious food court for additional charges. 

Pricing: $5 with canned food item; $6 without

 

3. Borges Ranch Hike & Tour

Where/When: , 1035 Castle Rock Rd, Walnut Creek; Saturday, 2 p.m.

Why Go: Join Ranger Dan Bylin on a tour to explore the historic Borges Ranch. Tour the 1901 ranch house and the 1903 carriage barn while learning what life was like on the ranch 100 years ago. Meet under the windmill near the parking lot at Borges Ranch.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: , 2060 Camel Rd, Benicia; Sunday, 2 p.m.

Why Go: The exhibit includes displays of photographs, uniforms, flags, equipment, web-gear, helmets, weapons, and other items that were used in the war. There will also be models of aircraft, including helicopters, and ground vehicles.

Pricing: Free

 

5. 

Where/When: Hospital Rd & Military E, Benicia; Monday, 10 a.m.

Why Go: Honor the nation’s veterans in this annual ceremony, with this year’s speaker Brigadier General Charlotte Miller, and the event includes a 15 gun salute, laying of wreaths, patriotic songs, a reading by Benicia’s first poet laureate, Joel Fallon.
