GET OUT: Fourth of July Weekend

Two celebrations in two cities, and much more

Where/When: 930 Ward St., Martinez; Monday, starting at 8:15 a.m.

Why Go: There will be a parade, kids’ activities, music, food and a lot of family fun. Flag-raising ceremony at 8:15 a.m. and the parade starts at 10. Fireworks at dusk over Carquinez Strait.

Where/When: Corner of Military and First streets; Sunday and Monday, times vary

Why Go: Monday’s activities include a picnic at noon in Benicia City Park, where there will be hot food, live entertainment, an open-air market, and activities for children until 7 p.m. About 9 p.m., a fireworks display begins at the bottom of First Street.

Where/When: Alameda County Fairgrounds, Pleasanton; Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Why Go: The fireworks show is Friday at 9:30 p.m. and viewable from the grandstands. The largest county fair in the area has tons of children’s and adult's entertainment, such as carnival rides, a mini-tractor pull, pig races and a petting zoo. 

Price: Kids 12 and under free on Fridays; otherwise $4-$10 admission

Where/When: , 7 N. Court St., Martinez; Saturday, 10 a.m.-noon

Why Go: Kids ages 5-12 are invited to participate in a morning of free fishing at the Martinez Marina. Bring your fishing rod and the organizers will supply the bait! Everyone who participates receives a prize. A parent or guardian must accompany children and all must register by Thursday.

Price: Free

Where/When: , 707 Marina Vista Ave., Martinez; Saturday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: A good night of folk rock with blues and alt-country at a very interesting downtown club.
