Warning To Watch For Coyotes

Keep pets inside to avoid encounters with wild animals.

Sally Morgan posted on Martinez Patch that a fox or coyote has been seen in the neighborhoods surrounding the Holiday Hills area.

The California Department of Fish and Game offers the following advice to residents:
  • Do not feed the deer. It is illegal in California.
  • Do not allow pets outside -- particularly at dawn, dusk or night.
  • Bring pet food inside to avoid attracting coyotes, raccoons or opossums.

If you encounter a coyote:

  • Do not run.
  • Face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms.
  • If necessary, throw rocks or other objects at the coyote to scare it away.
  • If attacked, fight back.
