Martinez is considered a small city, with the kinds of urban amenities and challenges other small cities enjoy and face. But the thing that makes this community unique is that sometimes, if you look in the right places, Martinez can harken back to eras long gone in other communities.
For instance, local photographer Craig Cannon was driving along Franklin Canyon road a few days ago when he spotted a number of cows on the side of the road. Not long after that, he saw the mounted cowboys coming to round them up.
Craig was good enough to whip out his trusty camera and grab some shots for us, giving us a glimpse of what used to be a fairly routine sight around here.
