Labrador Retriever Again Tops Popular Dog Breeds List

In the ranking of dog breeds by the American Kennel Club, the mighty bulldog pushes its way into the Top 5. Share your photos of your favorite breed!

The American Kennel Club released its annual list of the most popular breeds in America. For the 22nd year in a row, the Labrador retriever is Number 1.

The 2012 Top Ten list had a few shake-ups, as the Yorkshire terrier dropped to sixth place and the bulldog moved into fifth. The golden retriever and beagle also swapped spots between 2011 and 2012.

"Bigger breeds are making their move," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson in a press release. "The popularity of the pint-sized, portable pooch just gave way to a litter of larger breeds in the Top 10. These predictable, durable, steady breeds, like Labs and Goldens, are great with kids and offer the whole family more dog to love."

Here is the full list:

2012 Most Popular Dogs in the U.S.   1. Labrador Retriever 2. German Shepherd Dog 3. Golden Retriever 4. Beagle 5. Bulldog 6. Yorkshire Terrier 7. Boxer 8. Poodle 9. Rottweiler 10. Dachshund

Here is the AKC's ranking of all 177 breeds that it recognizes.

I have found it's very hard to find a parking spot there. Another negative is the number of theRead More "constant outsdoorsmen" types lurking all around. I've been confronted several times and worried about leaving my car there.

I am happy to know that Mr. Behan's review of "STID" is now available. Might we knowRead More where it is available? Perhaps I am just an Apple lovin' technopeasant, but despite my frantic serial clicking on text without links, I could not find the actual story. Alas and alack I may never know why there is no darkness in "...Into Darkness" (or Lightness). Oh, and welcome back Jim!

The main reason I don't go to any of the businesses downtown is the lack of parking. What littleRead More there is is taken up by the owners of these establishments. God forbid they park somewhere else less convenient so actual paying customers can frequent their businesses.

Jim, then that's yet another penalty for showing up for jury duty. The system needs a big overhaul.Read More
