Happy Birthday, John Muir!

Martinez celebrates the 175th birthday of a local historical icon, with free admission and events at the John Muir National Historical Site on Saturday, April 20.

John Muir, the Scottish-born founder of the National Parks system who made his home in Martinez, would have been 175 years old on April 21.

The birthday celebrations in Martinez take place on Saturday, April 20, when the John Muir National Historic Site offers free admission and a day of activities and exhibitions from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event includes a talk from wildlife expert Gary Bogue, more than 50 exhibits, live music and a silent auction, the presentation of the John Muir Conservation Awards and Junior Ranger activities for the kids. John Muir's 1882 Victorian home and orchards will also be open.
