Area Resident & NBA Star Adonal Foyle Is 'Alum of Year' at JFK U

Athlete, activist and author, Foyle is among eight being feted Saturday by JFK University in Pleasant Hill.

John F. Kennedy University is honoring Orinda resident and NBA star Adonal Foyle, MA Sport Psychology '11, as one of eight recipients of its 2014 Alumni of the Year Award. 

The alumni represent the Pleasant Hill university’s three colleges, were selected for distinguished service to professions and their communities, and will be recognized at the University’s Alumni Day on Saturday.  
Foyle began his NBA careerwith the Golden State Warriors in 1997 and over the next nine seasons, became the team's leading shot-blocker.  

He joined the Orlando Magic in 2007, proving himself incredible as the team enjoyed their best season in franchise history.  

Off the court, Adonal is committed to giving back.  He spearheaded his nonprofit, the Kerosene Lamp Foundation, promoting education and health awareness for kids through free basketball clinics in the Eastern Caribbean and the U.S.  

He recently authored a children's book, Too-Tall Foyle, to inspire young people, as well as his latest published work, Why NBA Players Go Broke.

He received the mayor of San Francisco's sports heroaward and the "Athlete with a Heart" award from the American Heart Association.  In 2009, he was inducted into the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame for helping voting-age youth understand campaign finance reform in America.

Adonal graduated from Colgate University, magna cum laude, with a BA in History and earned his MA in Sport Psychology from JFK University.
