Otters Return to the Water

Martinez Community Swim Team (MCST) to host annual "8 & under Invitational" on Sunday, June 2nd at Rankin Aquatic Center. This is the first swim meet of 2013 season and begins at 8:30. Free admission.

Martinez - May 30, 2013, The Martinez Community Swim Team (“MCST”) returns to the water for their first meet of the 2013 season on Sunday, June 2nd. This year’s annual MCST “8 & Under Invitational” meet hosts the youngest members from five local recreational swim teams including the Martinez Community Swim Team, Crockett Swim Team, LMYA Dolphins Swim Team, Marlins Swim Team, and the Oakwood Athletic Club. The smaller format of this unique event, which is only open to swimmers in the 8-year old and under age brackets, allows the younger boys and girls the opportunity to experience competitive swimming in a fun and more relaxed environment. The meet will be held at the Rankin Aquatic Center in downtown Martinez from 8:30am - 12:00pm. Admission is free and there will be a snack shack and raffles with proceeds going to support the swim team.

About the Martinez Community Swim Team (“MSCT) - The MCST Otters have been an active part of the Martinez community since 1980. As one of the largest recreational swim teams in the East Bay, the Otters are a team of athletes, coaches, parents, and community members who value the hard work, persistence, and commitment that are necessary to have an enjoyable summer swim experience. We are all about having fun in the sun, racing through the water, and enjoying our community of friends. Membership is open to all swimmers between the ages of four and eighteen (as of June 15) and is not limited to the Martinez area.

Children of all swimming levels will find a spot on our team. The Little Otter Program is for 4, 5 and 6 year olds who are not yet ready to swim one length of a 25-yard pool without using the lane ropes for support. And, of course, more advanced swimmers will embrace the opportunities that come with training and competing with the Otters.

The team is administered by an elected parent board, instructed by a paid, experienced coaching staff, and inspired by the children and youth who make up the team.
