The Contra Costa County Law Library has branches in Richmond, Martinez (main branch) and Pittsburg, serving all cities in the County.  In addition to providing access to legal materials for the legal community, a prime mission of the Law Library is to provide access to legal resources to the general public.  To that end, the Law Library is constantly adding print and online legal resources written for the general public.  For example, the Law Library has books like Fight your ticket & win in California, Defending a Credit Card Collection CaseNolo’s Simple Will Book – all written for the non-lawyer.

The Law Library’s website (http://www.cccpllib.org/) provides online access to its catalog as well as links to self-help legal resources (http://www.cccpllib.org/self-help.html), including links to California and Federal laws.

The Law Library also provides information about workshops and clinics serving the general public, including workshops about Housing Law, Small Claims, Bankruptcy.  In addition, the Law Library hosts “Lawyer in the Library Clinic,” a monthly clinic for individuals without a lawyer, held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month in Martinez.

As part of its outreach to the general public, the Law Library provides presentations to community groups and participates in information fairs, including the Senior Information & Health Fair held annually in Richmond.   This year’s Fair was a great success attended by some 700+ seniors and advocates for seniors, providing yet another opportunity for the Law Library to spread the word about its available resources.
