3rd Annual Fall Music Festival and Talent Show – Sept. 17

A benefit for the Martinez Veterans Memorial Building Fund

The Veterans Memorial Building (VMB) management and Community Initiatives of Martinez (CIM) are partnering to host the 3rd Annual Fall Music Festival and Talent Show on Sept. 17 at Susana Park, at Susana and Estudillo streets, in downtown Martinez.

This year’s festival, which runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., will focus on a community talent show that draws acts from Martinez and nearby communities. The Martinez Community Chorus and the Diablo Regional Concert Band will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Talented musicians and singers will participate in recitals throughout the day. Performers will be judged and winners will receive cash awards.

Any and all amateurs, regardless of age, will be considered to compete. For more information on the talent show or to enter, call 925-917-0441.  No entries will be accepted after Aug. 27.  There is no entry fee.  Beer, wine, soft drinks, water, snacks and sandwiches will be sold by the veterans. Free admission to the park.  Donations are welcome.

The Veterans Memorial Building, at 930 Ward St., is the headquarters for the Martinez Veterans of Foreign Wars Sidney Severns Post 1351, one of the two veteran organizations occupying the building (along with Henry A. McNamara Post 29 of the American Legion).  The veterans are continuing their efforts to upgrade the building, which was built in 1926 and originally housed an indoor swimming pool. They are looking to install up-to-date air conditioning, modernize the bathrooms, enlarge the hall and build a new stage, among other things, to create a unique place for Martinez veterans of all ages to enjoy. The hall and conference rooms are community assets and the vets are anxious to open their doors to special events such as wedding receptions, service club gatherings, dinners and dances at prices that won’t break your pocketbook.
