Gilbert.On the coast of Cornwall, England during the reign of Queen Victoria the dutiful and well-intentioned pirate’s apprentice Frederic has aged out of his contract. Determined to leave the profession in pursuit of an honest life, he meets and instantly falls in love with the beautiful and kind maiden Mabel. With Mabel’s family, our couple must outwit and defeat the proud Pirate King and his band through a series of surprises…and one peculiar paradox. First premiering in 1879 to critical acclaim and audience delight, Pirates is full of clever dialogue, plenty of parody, and memorable melodies in the hallmark Gilbert &amp; Sullivan style.

To conclude our season, we feature one of the very greatest operas of the 20th century - Porgy and Bess. Gershwin's undoubted classical masterpiece of 1935 has had productions throughout the world, and we are pleased to present the legendary Hollywood composer and arranger Russell Garcia who wrote this for Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong in 1959.Russell Garcia (1916 - 2015) was an American composer and arranger who wrote a wide variety of music for screen, stage and broadcast. He was a composer/ arranger at NBC Studios, Universal Studios, and MGM Studios where he composed and conducted an original score for such films as The Time Machine, Atlantis, and The Lost Continent. In 1957 he arranged and conducted the adaption of Porgy and Bess for Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald.

CLARINET FUSION, the Bay Area’s premiere Clarinet Choir, returns to the Martinez Senior Community Center on Friday, May 3, at 7 p.m. bringing its resonating sound and varied musical programing.

On tap is an exciting program titled Spring Fever, to include: Star Wars, Irish Tune from County Derry, Dance of the Russian Sailors, The Lone Ar-ranger!, Fantasia on the Dargason, American Patrol, Happy Together and much more! 

Did we mention that Clarinet Fusion was selected to perform at the International Clarinet Association’s annual ClarinetFest convention in Dublin, Ireland this summer? Auditions were submitted from 42 different countries and Clarinet Fusion was selected! We are so excited!!!
 

The concert is open to the public – all ages welcome! Doors open at 6:30pm.
