The Bay Area is encouraged to celebrate spring at the 3rd annual free <a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bay-area-springfest-2023-free-in-concord-tickets-399235924397" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bay Area SpringFest</a>&nbsp;TODAY (May 4), in the heart of downtown at historic Todos Santos Plaza featuring non-stop music, eclectic food court, kid’s activities, over 100 arts and crafts and other exhibitors plus a beer and wine garden benefitting Sustainable Contra Costa.
SpringFest is open from 12 noon to 7 p.m. this Saturday&nbsp;with free admission and free parking. SpringFest is held rain or shine.
The event presented by Bay Area Festivals debuted to a spectacular response the past two years with thousands of attendees and is back even larger, filling the tree-lined plaza in Contra Costa County’s largest city.
Over 100 vendors will be on hand offering myriad shopping opportunities for a wide variety of products and services as well as exhibitors providing information on their programs.
There are a variety of offerings in the eclectic food court on the Salvio Street side of Todos Santos Plaza as well as many restaurants and beer pubs in the immediate downtown area..
The SpringFest Beer &amp; Wine Garden features beer from popular Concord breweries <a href="https://www.sidegatebrewing.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Side Gate</a> and <a href="https://www.epidemicales.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Epidemic Ales</a> plus wine from Contra Costa's <a href="https://www.vianovineyards.com/?fbclid=IwAR1g8EhlaAMqvbvp5yeZdDKaQRRxmslThzKkz6Jw3n75ki85w6IYm7DNzMQ" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Viano Vineyards</a>. Proceeds from the Beer &amp; Wine Garden benefit <a href="https://sustainablecoco.org/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Sustainable Contra Costa</a>.
Live music on the Todos Santos stage begins at noon:
2:00-3:15 The Great Space Coaster is the East Bay’s favorite cover band throwing it back to the hits of the 70s, 80s and 90s. 
4:00-6:30 East Bay Grooveline is an energetic, groovy band that will disco your way to dance and satisfy your soul.
Kid's activities include free balloon animals and hats plus hands-on activities. COPA Soccer Training Center has a soccer activity all day at SpringFest.
Attendees can bring a blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy the spring day in the tree-lined park. Pets on a leash can come along too.
The first 400 attendees will receive a SpringFest Goody Bag. Each pre-registered attendee gets a free raffle ticket for numerous SpringFest-themed prizes. 
Donation of food to the Monument Crisis Center will earn the donor another raffle ticket for each can donated.

Lesher Center for the Arts

The Diablo Symphony brings New York City to the Lesher Center for the Arts on May 19 at 7:30 p.m., with Leonard Bernstein’s “Symphonic Dances from West Side Story” and the first three movements (“I’m Late, I’m Late,” “Her,” and “Pan”) of Eddie Sauter's Focus Suite for strings, percussion, and solo tenor saxophone, featuring the DSO’s own Greg Brown. Described as a "meeting point between jazz and classical music,” the seven-movement suite was composed in 1961 for saxophonist Stan Getz about 15 years after Sauter and Getz met when working in Benny Goodman’s band. Like all the other movements in the suite, each of the three movements being performed has its own unique fairytale-like theme. “I’m Late, I’m Late” was inspired by both Béla Bartók’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta and the White Rabbit’s song of the same name in Disney’s 1955 movie Alice in Wonderland. The lush second movement, “Her,” was dedicated to the memory of Getz’s mother, and the third movement, “Pan,” evokes images from Greek mythology. Brown, chairman of the music department at Walnut Creek’s Northgate High School before retiring in 2021, received the Paul A. Shaghoian Jazz Educator Award from the California Music Educators Association in 2019. Additionally, the school’s jazz band won first place in the high school big band division at the Next Generation Jazz Festival, sponsored by the Monterey Jazz Festival, for five consecutive years during Brown’s tenure and performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival six times between 2014 and 2019. 
Also featured on the program is “Hymn for Everyone” by New York City native Jessie Montgomery. Composed in the spring of 2021, this meditation for orchestra explores various washes of color and timbre while a hymnlike melody—which came suddenly to the composer following a long mountain hike in New Jersey—traverses through different orchestral “choirs” accompanied by other instruments in the ensemble.
