Walmart Thanksgiving Day Sale A Hit With Shoppers

No sign of protests as shoppers filled the parking lot and store in search of sales.

Walmart's plunge into Thanksgiving Day sales - saying open all day and holding a series of nighttime sale specials - was a huge hit with shoppers on Thursday. Parking places were harder to find than major discounts on clothes and electronics.

Though a number of Walmart employees vowed to boycott working on Thursday, and some shoppers vowed to stay home, it was clear from the crowds that mobbed the store on Thursday night that a good many more people supported the move to open the doors on Thanksgiving Day, rather than wait until the traditional Black Friday sales.

"I think it's great," said Sheila from Bay Point, who didn't want to give her last name. "I really like it that I can come here tonight and do so much of my shopping early. And I saved a lot of money."

The store had a series of specials at 8 p.m., and planned another series of specials at 10 p.m., and yet more specials Friday morning at 5. A store employee said the Martinez Walmart would be open all night long, and all day Friday.
