Powerful Politicians Fete Piepho In Martinez

East County supervisor is the subject of a fundraiser in Martinez this afternoon.

Mary Piepho, who represents District 3 on the Board of Supervisors, is being feted today at a fundraiser at Tom Powers' home in Stonehurst.

The list of attendees is a who's who of political power in the county: in addition to the Powers', supporters in attendance include solid waste leaders Sil Garaventa and Tim Argenti; attorney Scott Gordon and Martinez Unified School District Board president Vicki Gordon, and west county political consultant and power player Eric Zell.

The list of early supporters for Piepho'a reelection include Martinez Mayor Rob Schroder and City Councilwoman Lara DeLaney.

Tickets for this afternoon's event, which begins at 5:30, are $250 per person.

What makes this an interesting item is the fact that Piepho is a Republican, even though her supervisorial seat is non-partisan. Many of the people listed above are  registered Democrats, and considered major players in the party.

There is speculation that Piepho may be in line for a seat in the state legislature down the road. So far she denies it, but if she does choose to run, with the kind of support she's gathering today, she may be the only Republican in the county with a shot at winning a partisan race.
