Police Log: Stolen Mail Chase, Auto Burglaries, Gun Theft

Here are some of the items Martinez police dealt with during the past week

Some of the items from the Martinez police log from Thursday, Dec. 13, to Monday, Dec. 17.

Thursday, Dec. 13

11:39 a.m.: An auto burglary was reported at Alhambra High School. The vehicle was parked on the track and had its door pried open.

4:51 p.m.: Witnesses reported a woman driving a blue SUV had hit the curbs at Taylor Boulevard and Pleasant Hill Road. They said she then headed into a nearby shopping complex and drove on the grass. Police responded and arrested the woman on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Friday, Dec. 14

4:48 p.m.: Employees at the Safeway on Alhambra Avenue reported four male juveniles had taken two bottles from the store and driven off in a white Toyota Forerunner. They were last seen heading toward Virginia Hills Drive.

Saturday, Dec. 15

1:35 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a woman standing on the tracks near the Amtrak station taking photos of the trains. Witnesses said she was almost hit by one of the trains. Officers arrived and made her move along.

1:47 p.m.: The owner of a home on Ulfinian Way reported that jewelry had been taken from her house, possibly by a caretaker who had just been fired.

5:03 p.m.: A resident of Thatcher Drive reported a FedEx package had been taken from the porch. No suspect was seen.

Sunday, Dec. 16

9:23 a.m.: Police received a call that a young woman had stolen mail from County Hospital on Alhambra Avenue and was being chased by the person reporting the crime. The caller followed the woman north on Alhambra to Bertola and then Castro but lost sight of her. Police say they eventually found her and arrested the 19-year-old female on petty theft charges. 

6:57 p.m.: A resident of Arlington Way reported two guns had been stolen from his home while he was away during the weekend. The weapons were a 12-gauge shotgun and a hunting rifle, both Winchesters. No suspect was seen and there was no forced entry.

Monday, Dec. 17

8:01 a.m.: A caller said the driver of a silver Chevy pick-up truck had pushed three dogs out of his vehicle on Pleasant Hill Road East and drove off. The three small dogs were running around.

3:46 p.m.: An auto burglary was reported on Milano Way. The vehicle owner said a purse and wallet were taken. The owner said the car doors were locked, but there was no forced entry.

4:41 p.m.: Another auto burglary was reported on Shadow Falls Drive. The driver's side door was damaged. Thieves took prescription glasses, compact discs and walkie talkies.
